Them Dragons, y’all! I think House of The Dragon fans say this at least ten times during an episode due to the sheer incompetence of the current government at King’s Landing and the opposition party (mainly Daemon).

But the biggest enemy of House Targaryen has always been their need to be secretive and keep up pretenses, which leads to miscommunication. It screwed them over during the Dance of the Dragons, ending their reign over the Seven Kingdoms that Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters so painstakingly brought with fire and blood. And as if that wasn’t a lesson enough, they continued to let Aegon’s dream and their pretenses ruin them a second time, losing them the Iron Throne and almost ending their line!

For lovers of action films, the Keanu Reeves starrer John Wick is the gold standard. So when a film impresses its director, Chad Stahelksi, that must be work to be held in high regard. Kill, an action movie out of India, has managed this feat.

Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, Kill is a revenge-driven action flick that takes place aboard a train. It stars Lakshya and Raghav Juyal, along with Tanya Maniktala, Abhishek Chauhan, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Harsh Chhaya. The cinematography is by Rafey Mehmood, editing by Shivkumar V. Panicker, and it is written by Bhat. It is produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta’s Dharma Productions (Baahubali, Brahmāstra) and Guneet Monga and Achin Jain’s Sikhya Entertainment (Academy Award winner The Elephant Whisperers).

It’s ironic that audiences have been eagerly waiting for war sequences on House of The Dragon, yet the show’s biggest message remains anti-war. In fact, Rhaenyra Targaryen’s recent meeting with Queen Alicent proves just how much they don’t want war to break out. But the men … oh, the men.

Browsing X like we do the day after a new HOTD episode has aired, I came across tweets from fans displeased that once again, we get an episode where everyone’s just talking about war, and the actual war isn’t being fought. “Why didn’t Baela Targaryen let Moondancer ‘dracarys’ Ser Criston and Ser Gwayne?” “What happened to Rhaenyra’s rage after losing Luke? Why is she making pleas to the enemy to stop the war?” “Why was the Battle of the Burning Mill not shown?”

My Lady Jane is a new series on Prime Video created by Gemma Burgess, and starring Emily Bader and Edward Bluemel.  It is based on the first book in a series that reimagines the stories of various Janes from history, written by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows. The promotional tagline of Kill is that it is the most violent film to come out of India, and that’s sure to grab eyeballs, because the violence in Indian films is rather sanitized. It’s mostly designed to make the hero look invincible (RRR) and stylish (Jawan), occasionally adding a comic element (Kalki 2898 AD).

Harrenhal is a name that Game of Thrones fans know all too well. Ever since it was namedropped in House of the Dragon, we knew what awaited anyone who set foot in that castle: bad luck or even death. For that’s what the curse of Harrenhal is all about.

The first time we hear of Harrenhal is in House of the Dragon season 1, when it is the seat of House Strong. Lord Lyonel Strong, who is appointed the Hand of the King to Viserys I after the latter fires Ser Otto Hightower, is the lord of Harrenhal. After he and his son, Ser Harwin Strong (the biological father of Rhaenyra’s three elder sons), are burnt alive in a massive fire, there are whispers once again of Harrenhal being cursed.

The Black Noir we know in Eric Kripke’s The Boys series has a different arc from the one in the comics. But the change does make him one of the more fascinating supes on the show.

A strong appeal of The Boys is that it delves deep into the complex psyche of superheroes and isn’t afraid of exploring the dark sides of both its supe and human characters. Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), with his mask on at all times and never speaking, has been a silent mystery during the earlier seasons of the show, barring a few scenes, such as when he feels sad for the whale dying, or when he beheads the supe-terrorist Naqib but stops to engage with Naqib’s little son by picking up the kid’s teddy and playing with it.

In House of The Dragon, Ser Otto Hightower may have put his own machinations in place on certain occasions, but his ultimate thought was always for the good of the realm and the Targaryens ruling it. He served as a good Hand to two kings, Jaehaerys I and Viserys I, before his own grandson King Aegon II Targaryen took the throne.

The sci-fi and superhero genre in India has long been awaiting its messiah. Over the years, there have been many contenders, like the recent Brahmāstra (2022), yet we still haven’t found The One. But Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD is surely an ambitious step towards apotheosis.

Kalki 2898 AD is a Telugu dystopian science-fiction film coming out of India, written and directed by Nag Ashwin. The film stars huge names from across Indian cinema—Prabhas (Baahubali), Amitabh Bachchan (The Great Gatsby), Kamal Haasan (Dasavathaaram), Deepika Padukone (Jawan), Disha Patani, Brahmanandam, Saswata Chatterjee (Kahaani), and more. The cinematography is by Djordje Stojiljkovic, editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, and music by Santhosh Narayanan. The VFX in the Kalki is by British Asian studios Prime Focus DNEG, which has worked on films like Dune and Blade Runner, and The Embassy Visual Effects.

Ever pictured Santa Claus as a gym bro? You might not have to use your imagination for very long. Come November, you’ll see it in Red One, a holiday action comedy starring Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and a very ripped J.K. Simmons as Santa (again)!

Red One is directed by Jake Kasdan, with screenplay by Chris Morgan and story by Hiram Garcia. The trailer for Red One has dropped, and the very first shot has Dwayne Johnson spotting J.K. Simmons as he works out in a tank jersey. That’s how you reel ‘em in, right? And we haven’t even gotten to the best part yet—Simmons is Nick, or rather St. Nicholas of Myra, a.k.a. Santa Claus. And it’s the second time he’s playing Santa, having voiced him in the animated Klaus (2019).
