From humble beginnings as a Dungeons and Dragons home game between friends to a full-fledged media empire, Critical Role’s flagship animated series The Legend of Vox Machina has brought the beloved first campaign to the small screen for two seasons of drama, intrigue, romance, and a healthy dose of foul-mouthed antics.

After making history as the highest-funded film/TV project in Kickstarter history, The Legend of Vox Machina was quickly scooped up by Prime Video, who not only served as distributor, but green lit a second season before the first had even dropped on Prime Video—a glowing stamp of approval if ever there was one. In the wake of resoundingly positive fan and critical reception, Prime Video similarly renewed Vox Machina for a third installment midway through the release of season two—but just how long will critters have to wait before returning to Exandria?

The central characters on Netflix’s Bridgerton are of marriageable ages—during a time when women in their mid-twenties were considered over-the-hill. Yet, Hollywood’s gonna Hollywood, and several of the actors are nowhere near the ages of their characters.

That deprives viewers of some important nuance and warps our sense of aging IRL.

There’s been non-stop fan discourse about Netflix’s Bridgerton now that all of season 3 is out. However, one of the best things about it finally being available is hearing what the cast has to say about filming our favorite moments. And sometimes, a picture’s worth a thousand words.

Let’s be honest: A large percentage of our interest in Bridgerton lies in its steamy sex scenes. This season, a fair percentage of them went to the central couple of Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), who finally consummated their relationship over and over while also dealing with their very real flaws and personal growth.

Thankfully, there are actual experts who put in the years of work available to correct those assumptions.

Earlier this week, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the acquisition of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. On one hand, this is great news for the theater chain, which filed for bankruptcy several years ago. On the other hand, this Sony’s “saving” of the chain encapsulates the way of thinking that led to the movie industry’s downturn in the first place.

Why did Sony buy the Alamo Drafthouse?

Alamo will now be managed by a new Sony division called “Sony Pictures Experiences,” which will presumably aim to provide “experiences” for movie audiences beyond the actual films Sony makes.

Coming out as non-binary can be tricky enough. Coming out as you’re starring on a show that’s part of a legendary sci-fi franchise? Whoo! But Blu del Barrio made it look effortless on Star Trek: Discovery.

He* gave us the endearingly anxiety-ridden Adira Tal and showed us that respecting non-binary identities really isn’t that difficult. The Mary Sue had a chance to chat with del Barrio about, among other things, what he believes the impact of Discovery’s inclusion has been on a mainstream pop culture that has historically whitewashed and homogenized the human experience. Del Barrio’s casting on Discovery dovetailing with his coming-out journey made certain things clearer to him.

I adore HBO’s The Last of Us. The thing is, I loved the original video games going into the show. While the TV series is brilliant, the adaptation is not what makes me love that story. Whereas when it comes to Netflix’s Arcane, set in the world of Riot Games’ League of Legends, I’ve never been particularly interested in the game, but I adore the compelling, emotionally affecting show.

The adaptation itself is worthwhile, whether you’ve played League of Legends or not. Think pieces galore cite The Last of Us as a turning point for quality game adaptations. But we’ve already had great ones. Arcane is one of them. Sadly, Jinx and Vi’s story is coming to a close with the show’s upcoming second season. However, Riot Games promises that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the world of League of Legends.

Season 2 is already inspiring bad-faith skepticism based on leaked photos from the set, but a recent interview with Mazin and Druckmann about the seasons to come should set minds at ease. The final season of Star Trek: Discovery wrapped up the series beautifully and poignantly. The season finale explored Michael Burnham’s perfectionism and fear of failure. Yet, there was one important lesson I expected the captain of Discovery to learn that the show sidestepped entirely.

Michael Burnham is an amazing, complex character who’s been a joy, if intermittently frustrating, to watch for five seasons. Ever since Michael started a war with the Klingons, was arrested for mutiny, and was reinstated to commander in season one of Discovery, she’s been overcorrecting to atone for her mistakes while missing the point. She was imprisoned for taking it upon herself to decide what needed to be done to prevent a war.

In the games, and in Prime Video’s new series, music is a huge part of Fallout, and no one knows that better than composer Ramin Djawadi (Westworld, Game of Thrones) and music supervisor Trygge Toven (Westworld, Loki).

HBO’s The Last of Us and Prime Video’s Fallout are brilliant adaptations of very different video games. Many insist they herald a “golden age” of video game adaptation. However, one equally brilliant adaptation predates them: Neflix’s Arcane.

Despite League of Legends adaptation Arcane being animated, it’s no less effective an adaptation and no less ambitious. It’s a story told through beautiful artwork, brilliant writing, and compelling voice performances led by Hailee Steinfeld as Vi and Ella Purnell (who plays Lucy on Fallout!) as her sister, Jinx.

Amazon’s Fallout TV series is considered a huge success by critics and fans alike, and has already been renewed for a second season! While season one was amazing, it left us with some burning questions that season two needs to answer.

1. What’s the deal with Lee Moldaver?

Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) in Fallout
(Prime Video)

TMS‘ Sarah Barrett touches on many of the questions viewers have about Lee Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury). Namely, how the heck has she survived intact since before the Great War? Cooper Howard is now a ghoul. Hank MacLean was a Vault-Tec employee frozen in a cryopod, as was every Vault 33 overseer. So, where does Moldaver fit into all this? She’s clearly not a ghoul, so she must have been frozen at some point. But where, how, and by whom?
